As a hot and steamy night settled over the Brainerd lakes area, victory lane at North Central Speedway saw first-time visitors in all of its Wissota-sanctioned classes.
The Wissota Super Stocks rolled out for the first feature event. This race was all about front-row starters Erick Thiesse and Dave Mass. Thiesse picked up the early lead with Mass glued to his bumper. Midway through the race, the focus shifted to a fantastic three-wide battle for the fourth spot between Kurt Loftis, Ed Jensen and Tim Johnson.
With the first and only caution flag waving, the field was bunched back up for a four-lap shootout to the finish. As Thiesse raced into turns three and four, he had led every lap of the event until Mass swept high and made the pass as they flew by the flagstand with one to go. Mass hung on to take the win, with Thiesse and Tom Feierabend rounding out the top three.
The yellow flag waved early in the Pure Stock feature as a tire flew from Tony Yezek's car. Unfortunately, it would not be the end of Yezek's wheel woes. Yezek made it to pit road, where his crew mounted a new tire on the car during caution laps. He subsequently ran six more laps until the tire and wheel let loose, again bringing out the final caution of the event.
Brian Johnson dominated the race, leading every lap to win his third feature of the season. At the line, Cory Loidolt nipped Louis Wermter for the second spot by inches. The hard-charger of the event was Tom Segler, who finished sixth from his 20th starting spot.
In the Wissota Street Stock feature, Steve Eggersgluess pulled ahead to lead with Cale Berry close behind. On lap three, Berry tucked into the inside groove and pulled alongside Eggersgluess. After running two laps side-by-side, Berry suddenly slowed to a stop on the high side with mechanical failure and had to be pushed to the pits.
As the race resumed, Donny Thomsen had slipped past Randy Sprague for second place and was beginning to pressure Eggersgluess for the lead. Coming out of turn four, Thomsen made contact with Eggersgluess. As a result, the two and Sprague were crossed up sliding through the front stretch as the caution waved to realign the field.
On the restart, Eggersgluess held onto take his first NCS victory while Donnie Jensen dove by Sprague to capture the second spot.
The Wissota Midwest Modified feature saw Conrad Olson jump out to a commanding lead as George Sniezek and Don Wermter battled for second. A large pileup resulted as Jason Garner was turned sideways on the backchute in front of three-quarters of the pack.
On lap seven, Steve Eide passed Sniezek for second and set his sights on Olson. It would be no easy task as Olson had continually widened his lead. Eide managed to work his way up to Olson's bumper as the checkered waved. Olson conquered the field, leading all laps, and picking up his first win.
