Woman fatally struck by car in Pine River

PINE RIVER -- An 84-year-old Grand Rapids woman died Saturday after being struck by a car in downtown Pine River.

Lillian M. Ruhl was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, the Cass County Sheriff's Department reported.

The accident happened during the SummerFest celebrations in Pine River.

Pine River Police Chief Steve Abraham said Ruhl was attempting to cross Barclay Street near Second Street when she was hit by a 1991 Cadillac driven by Clarence Young, 73, Akeley.

The accident was reported to the Cass County Sheriff's Department at 11:10 a.m. Ruhl was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center by North Ambulance.

Young wasn't taken into custody, Cass County Sheriff Randy Fisher said, but the incident is being investigated by the Pine River Police Department and the State Patrol.
