Nisswa's Voels hurls 2nd shutout in row

BEMIDJI - Zack Voels went 3-for-3 in Game One before pitching a complete game shutout in the second game as Nisswa and Bemidji split a doubleheader in American Legion baseball Monday.

The shutout was Voels' second in a row, the previous coming against Staples-Motley on Wednesday.

Dan Bendzik plated Nisswa's only run in the opening-game loss. Ethan Nichols' run was enough to give Nisswa the win in the second game.

Staples-Motley 16, Verndale 1

STAPLES - Alex Jansson pitched seven innings of one-hit baseball and went 3-for-4 night with three runs, 5 RBI and a grand slam as he led Staples-Motley to a 16-1 victory over Verndale in American Legion baseball on Monday.

Staples' Trevor Smith was 4-for-4 with a double and drove in two.
