Open Forum: Ann Coulter should be tarred and feathered
Ann Coulter, "The Conservative Republican Sex Queen" is a real sick woman (no brains)! She should be tarred and feathered along with her conservative friends and sent to a leper colony!

Pawlenty's election-year ploy
Are Minnesotans going to recognize Pawlenty's latest election ploy? The governor, who wants transportation financed by highway contractors and is seeking high tech professionals to volunteer to write new state computer programs, plans to offer free college to the same students he has neglected for years. As governor and representative, he has an extremely poor education record. Although, the concept is good, where will he borrow the money from for this new program? His idea to finance anything in Minnesota has been nonexistent. Maybe he could bring back Cheri Yecke to coordinate this program. Or Commissioner Molnau could get all the corporations that are taking advantage of the tax loopholes to finance this college plan. Possibly, Speaker Sviggum could take another 3/16ths from the present budget or Pawlenty could ask all in the education field to volunteer their services.
Minnesotans it is time to recognize the ineptness of this present administration and look in a new direction to take the state forward again.

Be thankful on Independence Day
It's a day America can call its own. A day we come together as one united people and celebrate the rich history and heritage that makes this country so special. A day to remember and be thankful for the 56 men who took a risk 230 years ago to sign the very document that makes all Americans free.
In the closing words of the Declaration of Independence, those brave men pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to support their dream of a free America. And they did it so one day we all could live in a land of democracy and justice.
Because of their sacrifice, we as Americans are able to live as an equal society. We may pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness with freedom and dignity. We are not questioned for our thoughts and beliefs.
So as you embark on yet another Fourth of July, please don't forget the men who laid their lives on the line for all the future generations. They gave us our freedom and they deserve our honor and respect.

There's no whining in baseball
Regarding June 24 article, "Do's and don'ts at a Twins game," I find it ironic for a sports writer to say there are a number of things wrong with watching a baseball game. And at the Metrodome. Aren't you about 20 years late in saying that "the dome is an awful place to watch baseball?" You say you "yearn" for the new ballpark in 2010, but what will you complain about then? The rained-out games, the cold Minnesota weather or not being able to see foul balls because the sun is in your eyes? The things you don't enjoy at these games are things other people love. The food that's "nothing to write about" is probably some of the same food you'll eat at the state fair or any other sporting event. Of course the liquor is expensive - it is anywhere you go. And ticket prices? Depending on where you sit you can get in pretty cheap. Ever been to a Yankees game? Perhaps too expensive for you. For the family of five? I think it's great they got out of their house to enjoy one of America's favorite pastimes. The little girl reading her book probably wasn't as interested in the game as much as her brothers. Maybe next time she can attend the game with your wife and they can "people watch."
You see baseball isn't about people watching or high prices. It's about the noises, the unruly fans, the smell of the field, feeling like a kid again, being able to make a mess of peanut shells and have no one care, and cheering on your heroes. And I think if you opened your mind just a little you would see that while "there's no crying in baseball," there also shouldn't be "no whining."
