Elizabeth T. Hendricks, daughter of retired Marine Corps Col. Douglas O. and Kathleen M. Hendricks, Brainerd, has been awarded an Air Force ROTC college scholarship. The cadet was selected on the basis of comprehensive tests scores, high school scholastic achievement, school officials' evaluations, extra-curricular activities and community involvement. The scholarship is designed to cover the cost of tuition, textbooks, laboratory and incidental fees and a non-taxable monthly stipend during the school year.
Master-at-Arms First Class (Surface Warfare Specialist) Michael A. Rutland, son of Dennis and Jan Rutland, Pequot Lakes, is currently assigned as the Chief Master-at-Arms onboard the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and is on his fifth deployment. The USS Carl Vinson Battle Group and Airwing deployed in January and will remain in the Western Pacific while the forward-deployed USS Kitty Hawk (CVN 63) undergoes maintenance in order to maintain a responsive defensive posture in the region. He leads an armed security force of more than 250 personnel and is in charge of force protection and anti-terrorism measures for a ship that holds a crew of 5,500 Sailors and Marines. His military awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, three Good Conduct Awards and various unit awards and citations.
Army Pvt. Jacob I. Schuety, son of Kathleen E. and Steven L. Schuety, Brainerd, recently graduated from the metal worker advanced individual training course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. The student was trained in all phases of welding including ferrous and nonferrous metals using oxyacetylene, electric, arc and inert gas welding equipment.
Army Pfc. Ivan R. Marshall, son of Kelly Marshall and Angel Mann, Brainerd, has arrived for duty in Hohenfels, Germany. Marshall is an unmanned aerial vehicle operator with two years of military service.
Air Force Airman Jason R. Agnew, son of Scott H. and Marge Agnew, Onamia, has arrived for duty at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. Agnew is an air traffic control apprentice with the 5th Operations Support Squadron. He has one year of military service.
