Samantha Sullivan, the daughter of Ted and Becky Sullivan of Pillager, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship through the Best Buy Children's Foundation. Sullivan plans to attend Central Lakes College.

The following students were named students of the month for April at Riverside Elementary School: Victoria Martin-Muholland, Anna Razidlo, Conner Tretter, Jake Ellingson, Logan Taylor, Parker Sundquist, Lara Ammerman, Victoria Strong, Kate Hesse, Jack Schweich, McKenzie Veith, Megan Tschida, Loren Jones, Tanner Christensen, Leah Bahr, Dillon Houde, Amanda Nord, Dylon Praska, Jessica Harnack and Desirrae Merrell.

Megan Groneberg, the daughter of Bob and Bonnie Groneberg of Brainerd, has been accepted into the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth this fall. Groneberg plans to major in education. She was awarded a $5,000 opportunity grant and a $500 Brainerd United Educators Scholarship.

Ryan Browning, the son of Tim and Jane Browning of Baxter, was named to the spring dean's list at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. Browning was a 2002 Brainerd High School graduate.

High School graduates in Crow Wing County who are entering their first year of college and entering the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology are eligible for the Robert K. Anderson Scholarship. Anderson, a high school graduate in Brainerd and an alumni at the university, gave the university a $500,000 gift for scholarships. Students graduating from Brainerd High School will receive first preference for the scholarship.

Christopher Knopik, Little Falls, and Jennifer Roth, Motley, both seniors majoring in accounting, served as an income tax assistance volunteer at Bemidji State University.

Kevin Hondl, Baxter, was named to the spring academic dean's list for Argosy University, the Twin Cities School of health sciences.

Danielle Reese, the daughter of William and Laurel Reese of Crosby, has been accepted into the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth this fall. She also was awarded a $10,000 Benedictine Scholarship. Reese plans to major in psychology.

Lauren Doyscher, the daughter of Mark and Becky Doyscher of Baxter; Emily VanDerHagen, the daughter of Jon and Karen VanDerHagen of Baxter; and Laura Furda, the daughter of Dave and Cindy Furda of Brainerd, were named to the spring dean's list at the College of Saint Benedict.

Erika Nunnink, the daughter of Stephen and Randi Nunnink of Brainerd, studied in New York in May through the Center of International Education at the College of Saint Benedict. Nunnink is a junior at the school.

Katy Hochmayr, East Gull Lake, graduated from St. Olaf College.

Nathan Brennan, the son of Patrick and Susan Brennan of Brainerd, was awarded an Adam Theisen Scholarship by St. Cloud State University's English department.

Brandon Town, the son of Jim and Rose Town of Fort Ripley, plans to attend Concordia College in Moorhead this fall. Town, a graduate at Brainerd High School, was involved in choir, orchestra, Boy Scouts, track and he was the captain of the Nordic skiing and cross country running teams and he was an Eagle Scout.

The following area students were named to the spring high honor's list at Southwest State University: Renae Barnaby, Linda Bylander, Patricia Kvale, Suzanne McKibbon and Casey Trandem, all of Baxter; Stacy Anderson, Jennifer Emerson, Mary Fletcher, Haley Gottsch, Lisa Maas, Jolene Orlando and Melissa Vukelich, all of Brainerd; Warren Case, Breezy Point; Mary Sharp, Crosby; Shelly Pribyl, Fifty Lakes; Catherine Ebinger, Garrison; Patricia Durham, Jenkins; Jolaineah Jendro, Little Falls; Bethany Abramson and Sarah Miles, Merrifield; Desiree Greenwaldt and Christine Miller, Motley; Barbara Collette, Nisswa; Andrea Hillan and April Kinney, both of Pequot Lakes; Jessica Rocheleau, Daniel Talberg and Stephanie Talberg, all of Pierz; Christine Alt, Pillager; and Jordan Gaffey and Katrina Neubrandt, both of Pine River.

The following area students were named to the spring honor's list at Southwest State University: Heidi Lockwood and Eli Nelson, both of Aitkin; Stephanie Kron and Gloria Sloan, both of Brainerd; Jennifer Kahlhamer, Crosby; Benjamin Johnston, Crosslake; and Anna Wegscheid, Staples.

Jennifer (Koski) Hackbarth, a Brainerd High School graduate, received a master of divinity degree from Luther Seminary. As part of her degree requirements she served as an intern at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boise, Idaho, and her seminary education was supported by her home congregation, Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd.

Benjamin Kucera, the son of Dale and Gladys Kucera of Brainerd, was among several students who won the University of Wisconsin-Steven's Point chancellor's leadership award. Kucera's major is chemistry.

Molly Zauhar, the daughter of Ruth and Mike Zauhar of Brainerd, studied in Germany through the Center for International Education at the College of Saint Benedict's. Zauhar is a junior at the college.

The following students from Family of Christ Lutheran School in Baxter were named to the "A" honor roll: Third-graders Hannah Guin, Elias Peterson and Kyle Thomas; fourth-graders Joseph Andersen and Jordan Nocton; and sixth-grader Matt Peterson. Named to the "B" honor roll were third-grader Evan Kahler and Levi Christensen; fourth-graders Ryan Benhardus and Alex Dullum; fifth-grader Rydre Torgerson; and sixth-grader Jeremy Gallati. Sixth-grader Bethany Andersen was named to the principal's list.

Veronica Miller of Brainerd will receive a $1,000 transfer student scholarship this fall when she attends the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Miller plans to major in mass communications. She was a 2001 Brainerd High School graduate and earned an associate's degree at Central Lakes College.

Thomas Dobrzynski, the son of Virginia and the late Donald Dobrzynski of Baxter, was named to the second semester dean's list at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.

The following students were named students of the month at Garfield Elementary School in May: Tyler Dahl, Ryan Blum, Madecyn Franz, Brianna Gross, Kristina Anderson, Sam Cobb, Hailey Allen, Dylan Daniels, Nikki Anderson, Andrew Meyer, Richard Volkmuth, Sean Beiver, Grace Larson, Brooke Swanson, Riplee Miles, Kevin Engholm and Haley Bjordahl.

Rachael Greene, Little Falls, was named to the spring dean's list at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.

The following area students plan to attend the College of Saint Benedict or Saint John's University this fall: Erin MacDonald, the daughter of Colin MacDonald of Baxter; John Benson, the son of Charles and Mary Benson of Brainerd; Bryce Cloutier, the son of Joe and Patti Cloutier of Baxter; Paul Erickson, the son of Susan Kerr of Brainerd and Michael Erickson of Baxter; Luke Furda, the son of James and Julie Furda of Brainerd; and Matthew Logering, the son of Dean and Toni Logering of Merrifield.

Rhonda Johnson of Brainerd was one of the top cosmetology students at Northwest Technical College in Wadena to receive an Aerial Beauty Supply Award.

Maggie Nelson of Brainerd participated in the 4-H Youth Against Prejudice contest in Minneapolis recently. Nelson experienced a home stay weekend that included celebrating the Jewish Sabbath with a host family.
