CUSHING -- Father Thomas Meyer, 73, Cushing, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Melrose to Celestine Peter Meyer and Teresa (Schroeder) Meyer. He attended St. Boniface Grade School in Melrose, Crosier High School in Onamia and St. John's Seminary in Collegeville. He was ordained by Bishop Peter W. Bartholome at St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud on June 4, 1955. He celebrated his first Mass on June 5, 1955, at St. Boniface Church in Melrose. He served as associate pastor at St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud from July 1955 to September 1955; associate pastor at St. Paul's Church in Sauk Centre from September 1955 to November 1960; and as pastor at Sacred Heart Church in Dent from November 1960 to June 1965, at St. Gall's Church in Tintah from June 1965 to June 1968, at St. Anthony's Church in St. Cloud from June 1968 to August 1972, at Holy Angels Church from August 1972 to June 1973, at St. Michael's Church in Buckman from June 1973 to July 1977, at St. Ann's Church in Wadena from July 1977 to July 1987, at Assumption Church in Menahga from June 1983 to July 1987 and at St. John the Baptist Church in Swanville from July 1987 to July 1999. He retired in July 1999. He was a member of the Ecumenical Commission from March 1967 until December 1969. He was dean of the Wadena Deanery from August 1977 until July 1987. He served as moderator of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women from September 1999 until March 2002. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include one sister, Lucille Orth.
Three brothers, LeRoy, Vernon and Leo Meyer; two sisters, Sister Cecile, OSF, and Sister Bernadette, OSF; and his parents died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Bishop John F. Kinney presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery in Melrose. Memorials are preferred to Asmat Missions Inc.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until services Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose.
