A new lounge will open mid-July at Brainerd International Raceway.
The Crow Wing County Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for a liquor establishment Thursday.
Bill Singleterry, president of Brainerd International Raceway, said he applied for the conditional use permit for an on-sale bar/lounge at the request of BIR fans. The liquor license was approved by the Crow Wing County Board in May.
Singleterry said the lounge will be called Top Fuel Club and will be located in an empty 40-by-80-foot retail building next to the condominiums inside the gates at BIR. The 160-seat establishment will be open from noon to 11 p.m. during scheduled racing events at BIR. There will be up to eight employees at the lounge.
Planning Commission chair Roger Landers said the application followed all the land-use requirements.
Last month, BIR also requested an off-sale liquor license, but the county board denied the request. The denial was based on public safety, law enforcement and economics issues.
