The Highway 27 bridge over the Platte River between Little Falls and Pierz is closed until further notice after bridge crews detected erosion beneath bridge footings after the heavy rains earlier this week.
Because of the erosion concern, the detour route originally posted after a culvert collapsed on Highway 27 just east of Little Falls has changed. Traffic now is being detoured on Morrison County Road 43 and Morrison County Road 255, the Minnesota Department of Transportation office in Baxter reported.
Lee Purdham, MnDOT maintenance superintendent, said the Platte River bridge was closed as a safety precaution.
"Maintenance crews will evaluate both of the Highway 27 situations again on Monday and determine the extent of the damage. Before our crews can make the necessary repairs, the high water must recede," said Purdham.
