CROSSLAKE -- John C. Hanning, 86, Crosslake, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center of Brainerd.
He was born Oct. 3, 1913, in Edmunton, Canada, to John and Florence (Cooper) Hanning. He attended school in Minneapolis. He graduated from the Univesity of Minnesota with a degree in mining engineering. He married Kathryn on Sept. 25, 1937, in Webster, S.D. He enlisted in the Air Force during World War II and was discharged. After two years, he re-enlisted and worked as a comptroller for the Air Force. He retired as a colonel in 1965. After his retirement, he moved to the Crosslake area. He was a member of the Air Force Association and the Crosslake Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son, John C. Hanning Jr., San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Gail Peterson, Richfield; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Robert Hanning, Hopkins.
His wife, and a great-granddaughter died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Crosslake Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be private.
Friends may call an hour before services at the church.
