Pine River's Summerfestthis weekend

PINE RIVER -- Summerfest in Pine River will run Friday-Sunday with a variety of events and the theme, Let Freedom Ring.

Friday -- Arts and crafts displays downtown; Pine River Art Club show on Norway Brook; merchant sidewalk sales; Pine River Public Library annual book sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. behind the old Pine River library building on Barclay Avenue; Pine River duck races at 1 p.m. at the dam; Prairie Fire Children's Theatre will present "Robin Hood" at 7 p.m. at Pine River-Backus High School; and steak fry at the Pine River American Legion from 4 to 8 p.m.

Saturday -- Arts and crafts displays downtown; fire engine rides from 9:30 a.m. to noon; Prairie Fire Children's Theatre will present "Robin Hood" at 10 a.m. at PR-B High School; Pine River Public Library annual book sale all day behind the old Pine River library building on Barclay Avenue; Scheer's Lumberjack Show at 10:30 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. at the dam.

Jan's Heart & Soul Karaoke & DJ Music On The Street; kids' activities, including inflatable games, face painting and pony rides; food fest from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the dam beside Norway Brook, including elk burgers, brats, shortcakes and cheese curds, and bluegrass music by Lonesome Tradition.

Summerfest Parade at 1 p.m. featuring Ray Hoover, a 1940 graduate of Pine River High School and World War II veteran, as grand marshal; horseshoe tourney at 1 p.m. at the park; Jaycees softball tournament at the ballfields east of Pine River; gospel concert at 7 p.m. in the park; and the firemen's street dance from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the fire hall with the band Upper South.

Sunday -- Pine River Lions' Fly-In, Drive-In Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the airport; Pine River Public Library annual book sale from 10 a.m. to early afternoon behind the old Pine River library building on Barclay Avenue; and golf tournament at 12:30 p.m. at the country club.
