Bay Lake Lions fundraiser slated

The 10th Bay Lake Lions Scholarship Scramble is scheduled July 21 at Cuyuna Country Club in Deerwood.

Proceeds go to vocational-technical and college scholarships for students from Crosby-Ironton and Aitkin high schools.

Entry fee is $80 and includes green fee, cart, steak dinner and prizes (everyone will receive one) and a chance to win a Buick from Mills GM.

The putting contest starts at noon with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Hasselberg in quarterfinals

Glen Hasselberg, The Vintage at Staples, advanced to the quarterfinals before bowing out of the ninth MGA Senior Players Championship June 18 at Golden Valley Golf and Country Club.

Hasselberg defeated Jeff Evenson of Bent Creek Golf Club 1-up, then eliminated Robert Leaf of Hazeltine National Golf Club 1-up. Hasselberg fell to Jerry Gruidl of Golden Valley Golf and Country Club 3 and 2.

Jack Seiberlich of Eagles Landing Golf Club lost to Michael Fermoyle of Hastings Country Club 3 and 2 in the opening round. Bruce McIntosh of Golden Eagle Golf Club also lost in the opening round to John Taylor of Manitou Ridge Golf Club in extra holes.

Hills qualifies

Brian Hills, Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge, shot 75 at Chomonix Golf Club in Lino Lakes to tie for fourth and qualify for the 105th MGA Amateur Championship.

Holes-in-one

John Larsen, Minneapolis, aced the 167-yard seventh hole at Whitefish Golf Club June 14 using a 6-iron.

S. Bonnette, Pequot Lakes, aced the 188-yard fourth hole at Whitefish Golf Club June 15 using a 5-iron.

Glenn Mahler, Brainerd, shot a hole in one Sunday on the 175-yard 18th hole at Madden's Pine Beach East, using a 5-iron.
