Ruth E. "Polly" Smith, 80, of Brainerd, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd after a courageous battle with cancer. Polly was born July 6, 1927, in Brainerd, Minn., the daughter of Jefferson and Margaret (Carner) Hines. Services for Polly are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with the Rev. Mark Whittemore officiating. Friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services.
