In a game in which runs were scored in bunches, it was the Strikkers that held on for a 13-9 win over the Blazers in Junior League softball action Monday in the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department's Game of the Week.
The Strikkers scored four runs in the first inning, four in the third and five in the fourth frame for the win. The Blazer scored three runs in the third inning, four in the fourth and two in the top of the sixth.
The Strikkers belted out 12 hits. Jessica Noonkesser had a single and triple, Hannah Kruetzfeldt had two singles, Kelly Oppelt had a double and a two-run triple, and Nicole Hakseth-Potvin, Sarah Olson and Kayla Jacobson each had two singles.
Hakseth-Potvin had a big hit in the first inning when she stroked a bases-loaded single. Olson followed with a base hit as the Strikkers plated four runs. Hakseth-Potvin and Olson each had RBI singles in the third inning. In the fourth, Kruetzfeldt had a RBI single, Oppelt smacked a two-run triple and Olson had a RBI single.
The Blazers countered with 11 hits including a two-run homer by Trista Kassulker, which was followed by a triple hit by Megan Dyson. Kassulker finished with three hits in four at-bats, Brittany Haberman and Nikki Gorvan each had two hits.
