STAPLES -- A 13-year-old boy from Clearwater County was arrested Monday after leading Staples police officers on a 20-mile chase with speeds between 60 and 80 mph, Staples Police Chief Kyle Huber said Tuesday.
The pursuit began about 12:55 a.m. on Highway 10 in Staples when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which was reported stolen in St. Cloud. The boy fled and went through a stoplight in Staples. He continued on Highway 10 to Wadena.
The Verndale Police Department assisted with the chase and applied stop sticks to slow the vehicle. The suspect crashed into a Wadena County Sheriff's Department squad car and his vehicle was pinned between the squad car, a pole and squads from the Verndale and Wadena police departments, said Huber.
The suspect was taken into custody by the Wadena County Sheriff's Department and then placed in the Central Minnesota Regional Detention Center in Brainerd.
Charges are pending through the Todd County attorney's office. Charges may include fleeing a peace officer and criminal damage to property. Charges also are pending with the St. Cloud Police Department for automobile theft.
