MINNEAPOLIS -- Big Head Todd and The Jayhawks will headline the Basilica Block Party on July 7-8 in downtown Minneapolis.
Nearly a dozen other national and regional acts will perform at the sixth annual street festival, which raises money for the historic church and parish at 16th and Hennepin near Loring Park.
Dubbed "a party of a higher order," the Block Party is expected to attract 20,000 music lovers to its two outdoor stages, according to organizers.
"The party provides a safe social event and volunteer opportunity for young adults," the organizers said in a news release this week. "We've lined up more than 1,500 volunteers to ensure that it will be the downtown event of the summer."

The opening night lineup July 7 -- bands play from 5 to 10:30 p.m. -- includes BoDeans, Soul Asylum, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise, Boogie Wonderland, Daniel Cage and One World.
BoDeans is a Wisconsin-bred "roots-rock" band that is best-known for its hit song, "Closer To Free," adopted by Fox TV as the theme song for "Party of Five."
On July 8, teen-age blues phenom Shannon Curfman will join Big Head Todd and the Monsters, The Jayhawks, Train, The Scott Laurent Band and Moneypenny.
A Fargo native, Curfman is touring the country this year as an Arista Records artist, playing cuts from her successful first release, "Loud Guitars, Big Suspicions."
BoDeans is a Wisconsin band.
Big Head Todd is best-known for its "Sister Sweetly" album, which went platinum in 1993, and "Strategem," a gold record released in 1995.
The Jayhawks, formed in Minneapolis in the mid-1980s, is one of the country's most prominent alternative country bands. It's 1991 release, "Hollywood Town Hall," was featured by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the 34 greatest rock and roll albums of the 1990s, according to party organizers.
Advance tickets for the event -- which includes a tour of the Basilica -- are $20 per day, or $35 for two days. Call (612) 317-3511.
