Area students attend Discipleship Week
DULUTH - Twenty-seven Brainerd area high school students recently attended Discipleship Week at the College of St. Scholastica. The four-day retreat was sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Duluth and NET (National Evangelization Team) Ministries, a national organization based in St. Paul.
Students from the Brainerd area formed the largest group at the retreat and represented the following parishes: St. Mathias, St. Andrew's, and St. Francis in Brainerd; St. Alice in Pequot Lakes; and St. Christopher's in Nisswa.
Bluegrass concert planned
The Alzen Family will perform in an outdoor concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Malmo Free Church. Brad and Denise Alzen and their four children are winners of the Minnesota bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association 2006 Family Area Talent Contest. They play bluegrass and gospel music. The church is located near the junction of Highways 47 and 18 on Highway 18 near the northeast corner of Lake Mille Lacs.
CROSSLAKE - The Crosslake Christian Assembly of God church will have a bluegrass concert at 6 p.m. Sunday. This is a change from the regular last Sunday of the month schedule. Local musicians will perform on a variety of instruments including banjo, mandolin, guitar and more. Contact Pastor Gary at 821-7777 for more information.
Clown troupe to perform
NISSWA - The Faith in One Clown Troupe will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa.
They are a drama ministry group of teenagers from Florence, Ky. They incorporate music, mime, drama and laughter into an evening of worship.
Rejoice Lutheran Church supports Race for the Cure
Rejoice Lutheran has put together a team to help raise funds to cure breast cancer. Race for the Cure takes place on July 5 at Forestview Middle School in Baxter. Anyone interested in joining the Rejoice Lutheran team to either walk or run for this cause should call the church office at (218) 839-5551 or contact Carol Rodseth at 825-3980.
Potluck supper planned
An evening of fun, food and fellowship potluck supper will be 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ossipee Community Church in the church yard at the junction of County Road 109 and 3 north of Merrifield. Grilled hamburgers will be provided. Special music will be by Deb and Duane Hawkinson.
Living Savior to have garage sale
LAKE SHORE - Living Savior Lutheran Church, 8327 Interlachen Road, Lake Shore, will have its annual garage sale from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Proceeds will be matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Children's carnival planned
PILLAGER - A children's carnival will be from 1-5 p.m. June 29 at the parking lot of First Lutheran Church in Pillager. The event is sponsored by the Love Your Neighbor group of the First Lutheran Church of Pillager. There will be games, food, drawings and a raffle drawing.
