State basketball champions

The ninth-grade Minnesota Lakers basketball team won the MYAS Division I state championship June 9-10 in Rogers. The Lakers defeated Hawks Hoops 53-34, TNL Express 66-61 and Eastview 46-41, qualifying for the USSSA national tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind. Members of the Lakers are Alex Scott (left, Little Falls), Taylor Filipek (Willmar), Cody Meyer (Sauk Rapids), Matt Peterson (Alexandria), Derek Wolhowe (Staples), Kyle Crocker (Brainerd) and Jordan Reiwer (Staples). Not pictured is Joe Hurlbut (Alexandria)
