Richard Lawrence Kastner, age 61, died on June 17, 2004, after a battle with cancer. Dick was preceded in death by parents Lawrence and Sadie and is survived by loving wife Lexie, daughters Kristen (David) Ziemer and Sara, son Joe, grandchildren Hailey and Ellie Ziemer, brother Jerry, and sisters Pat Kenton and Diane Reiss. Dick graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in accounting and worked with Arthur Anderson for six years. He joined Commercial State Bank and its holding company in 1975, received a graduate degree in banking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and continued to work with that organization until earlier this year, most recently as the CEO of Alliance Bank. Dick was the St. Paul Jaycees 1988 Boss of the Year and a mentor, confidant and friend to all with whom he worked. He was also very involved in the community volunteering as a coach with the Woodbury Athletic Association and as both a technical delegate and chairperson with the United States Ski Association at the Select, Regional and National levels. Dick served on the United Way Board of Directors for 13 years and was the 1991 chairman of the St. Paul area. True to his giving nature, he was a Red Cross blood donor for 35 years. Dick raised his children in Woodbury and spent the last four years enjoying his log home on Cedar Lake in Deerwood, golfing, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren. His zest for living, his wonderful positive energy and dry sense of humor, his caring and helping nature and generosity to family and friends mark him as a man of great inner strength, integrity, spirit and goodness. Dick will be greatly missed as a husband, father, grandfather "Papa," friend and colleague. We will honor his memory by remembering all he has shared with us and all he has taught us as we continue on without him.
