Dear Heloise: My husband and I travel a lot, and, as we all know, the weather can change at any moment. To help us, we purchased a PORTABLE WEATHER SCANNER RADIO. It picks up the nearest weather-forecasting center wherever we are.
We take our atlas and highlight the counties in the area where we are traveling. If the weather starts deteriorating, we turn on the weather scanner. If weather reports are issued, we have the counties highlighted so they will be easy to spot and we know exactly where the bad weather is.
Doing this has helped us miss several bad storms simply by stopping below the storm or going around it. It might take a little extra time, but it is well worth it. -- Lynn in Louisiana

Here are a few handy ways to put that extra wicker basket to use:
Store lids and ladles in one.
Keep one near the door for car keys.
Put a basket in the pantry for small sauce envelopes.
Use in the bathroom and fill it with washcloths.
Fill it with sample-size toiletries and put it in the guest room. -- Heloise
Dear Heloise: I was constantly misplacing my keys at home or losing sight of them at the bottom of my purse.
At my local home-improvement store, I purchased a length of chain 2 feet long with 1/4-inch links. I attached one end to my key ring and the other end to the hole in the zipper pull on my purse.
Now, as long as I have my purse, I know I have my keys. Whenever I need them it is very easy to pull them out. -- Carolyn Hoy, DeSoto, Texas
