Jamie Nelson, the daughter of Brian and Janet Spreiter of Baxter, and Karla Waldorf, the daughter of Pat and Bob Waldorf of Brainerd, have been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University. Nelson is a senior and majoring in social work and Waldorf is a junior majoring in biology.

Debra Tastad, Registered Nurse, BA and nurse educator at Central Lakes College and chemotherapy staff nurse at St. Joseph's Medical Center, is the recipient of the $3,000 ONS Foundation/Genetics Institute Master's Scholarship. Tastad received an associative degree in nursing in 1980 from Brainerd Community College, and a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1984 from the College of St. Scholastica, where she is enrolled in a master's program.

Sarah Jean Hinkley, was presented with the Women of the Moose Nursing Scholarship for $200. It was presented at the business meeting on May 25, by past Sr. Regent, Pam Miller.

Jennifer L. Erickson, the daughter of Jan and John Erickson of Brainerd, has been elected president of the St. Olaf College Honors Political Science Association. Erickson is touring abroad with the St. Olaf Band as a flutist. She is a senior at the college.

The following students graduated from the University of North Dakota May 14: Aaron Eide, Bjorn Erickson, Shad Fetters, Christian Halverson, Elissa Larson, all of Brainerd; Sarah Schmidtbauer, Little Falls; Lindsay Brown, Pequot Lakes; Thomas Lupella, Pine River.

Adam Kuiken, son of Paul and Beth Kuiken of Aitkin, received a Freshman Presidential Scholarship for the 2000-2001 school year, at the University of North Dakota.

Charles Neff Jr., Brainerd, is among nearly 350 students named to the dean's list for the spring 2000 semester at Mount St. Mary's College in Maryland.

Totianna Schlegel, the daughter of Suzy Tuomi of Brainerd, was awarded the J.F.T O'Connor Scholarship, from the University of North Dakota, for her academic ability and leadership.

Recipients of the Robert Campbell Foundation Scholarship from the University of North Dakota are Branelle Cibuzar, the daughter of Shellie and Alan Cibuzar, of Brainerd; Amanda Christensen, the daughter of Randy and Connie Christensen, of Brainerd; and Derek Dirlam, the son of Elizabeth and Gary Dirlam.

Oak Plested, the son of Neil and Jean Plested of Brainerd, is a recipient of the Paul W. Larsen Scholarship from the University of North Dakota.

Kirsten Newstrom, the daughter of Rebecca Newstrom, of Brainerd, will be attending Concordia Language Villages. Newstrom will be at the Norwegian camp from June 26 to July 1, and at German camp from Aug. 14-26.

Amy Jo Waldera, the granddaughter of Richard and Bernice Henderson of Fifty Lakes, was named to the dean's list at Inver Hills Community College. Waldera is a graduate of East View High School, in Apple Valley.

The following students were named to the dean's list for spring semester at South Dakota State University: Carrie Eiesland, Brainerd; Rose Ebnet, Pequot Lakes; and Ellen Voyles, Little Falls.

Matthew Karlgaard, Brainerd, was named to the dean's list for spring semester at South Dakota State University with a 4.0 grade point average.

A videotape entitled "Where We Stand", which deals with the American system of democracy, free enterprise and our standard of living was distributed to every public and private high school, community and junior college and some of the area chambers of commerce and public libraries in the 8th Congressional District. The video features Rep. James L. Oberstar and Ray C. Burnett, president of Mid-Minnesota Credit Union, and contains information pertaining only to the 8th District.

Jeffrey Kraemer, the son of Bruce and Janet Kraemer of Brainerd, recently accepted a one-year teaching position with the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme of Tokyo. Kraemer will report to Japan July 15. Kraemer plans to reside in Joyo-shi, Kyoto-fu, Japan, and will teach conservational English and American culture to the students. He is a 1994 Brainerd High School graduate.

Joe Browning, the son of Tim and Jane Browning of Baxter, graduated manga cum laude from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry/molecular biology, and a minor in Spanish.

Browning, who served as president of the pre-med club and secretary of the student health advisory committee, will start medical school at the UMD School of Medicine this fall.

Jean Fitzpatrick, Brainerd, and Karrie Erbele, Fort Ripley, were named to the dean's list for spring semester at Winona State University.
