20 years ago (1989)

Residents seeking peace and quiet on Birchdale Road have been watching their clocks and complaining about late races at Brainerd International Raceway. Six neighbors called the sheriff June 10. Races are not to start before 9 a.m. or finish after 6 p.m.

30 years ago (1979)

(Photo) Peter Gregg lofts his Pepsi Grand Prix trophy in the air at Brainerd International Raceway after winning the race for the second year. Gregg averaged 107.2 mph in his Porsche and received $5,150 for his 100-mile road race victory.

40 years ago (1969)

(Photo) Terry Hanson, a Brainerd angler who caught a 5-7 largemouth bass at Gull Lake last week, tried Clark Lake for this 5-6 largemouth, which he weighed in at the Nisswa Bait Shop.

60 years ago (1949)

The practice of putting coins behind windshield wipers for police officers to put into parking meters, thus preventing overtime parking tickets, must be discontinued, said police chief Tom Templeton. The practice has become widespread.

80 years ago (1929)

William McLean, who lives near Jenkins, was arrested by sheriff's deputies while he was eating lunch near a 30-gallon still he was operating. Five gallons of moonshine and the still were seized as evidence.

100 years ago (1909)
