EAST GULL LAKE - The East Gull Lake First Responders will have a pig roast and silent auction fundraiser from 2-6 p.m. Saturday at the East Gull Lake Airport. Cost for the pig roast will be $6 for ages 12 and up and $4 for those under 12.

There will be demonstrations from area EMS groups.

Minnesota Wing of the Civil Air Patrol to have 11th cadet encampment

The Minnesota Wing of the Civil Air Patrol will conduct its 11th cadet encampment Saturday though June 27 at Camp Ripley.

Rather than a boot camp/scout camp/fun week the encampment curriculum focuses on leadership development activities for those ages 12-18.

Activities normally include land navigation, obstacle course, M-16 rifle and tank simulators, physical training, volleyball tournament, and drill competition, as well as uniform, grooming and barracks inspections. There's also an educational component emphasizing moral leadership, cadet program opportunities, aerospace heritage and more.

YMCA SilverSneakers to conduct open House at Mills Ford

The Brainerd Family YMCA will conduct an open house Thursday at the new Mills Ford satellite site for YMCA SilverSneakers classes.

SilverSneakers classes are now being conducted on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. at Mills Ford, in addition to the regular scheduled classes at the YMCA. The open house will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Mills Ford. YMCA staff will be on hand to answer questions about the SilverSneakers fitness program and questions regarding health insurance eligibility.
