CLEAR LAKE - The Brainerd Bees baseball team played nearly the equivalent of two full games Saturday as they beat Clear Lake 5-2 in 17 innings in a Lakewood League game.
With the game tied 2-2, Tom Fairbanks led off with a bunt single, was moved to second on a Blake Eller sacrifice bunt and reached third on a Brady Prince single. Justin Huether then stepped up and delivered a double to score both Fairbanks and Prince.
Huether then moved over to third on a wild pitch but was thrown out at the plate on a Kyle Holbrook groundball. But Grant Eller brought Holbrook in for the final run with a triple, giving the Bees a rousing 5-2 win.
Eller finished 3-for-6 and Prince added two hits. Blake Eller had a hit, walked three times and stole home for the game's first run.
Huether picked up the win as he pitched seven innings of one-hit ball and struck out seven. Blake Eller started the game and went 10 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.
