CRYSTAL (AP) - The Minnesota Crime Alert Network issued an Amber Alert on Sunday after police say a 2-year-old girl was taken by her noncustodial father, then canceled the alert a few hours later after the girl was found.
Alene Mae Paynes of Brainerd was at her grandmother's home in Crystal, a northern Twin Cities suburb, when her father came to visit. The man took the girl, ran out the door and fled in a late-model Jeep Cherokee with damage to the front driver's side, police said.
Police found the girl and her father later Sunday afternoon. Authorities didn't immediately say where the two were found.
Under an Amber Alert, the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension releases information about suspected kidnappings of children 17 years old or younger to the media, law enforcement agencies and businesses.
