Mackenzie Ross, 2006 Miss Brainerd Lakes, was named second runner-up Saturday at the Miss Minnesota Pageant in Eden Prairie.
Ross, 19, also was the pageant's overall interview winner and she won the preliminary swimsuit competition.
"She was absolutely so excited to finish at that level," said Vicki Randall, Miss Brainerd Pageant director, of Ross' second runner-up finish. "She also kind of surprised and very excited to have won interview.
"It was crazy there. We had blast, it was definitely fun."
Ross was one of 15 participants in the Miss Minnesota Pageant. The winner was Jennifer Hudspeth of Mankato. First runner-up was Meghan Kuznia of Marshall County.
For finishing second runner-up, Ross received a $1,250 scholarship. She also received a $500 scholarship for winning the interview competition and $250 for winning preliminary swimsuit competition, in which she tied with Hudspeth.
Randall said Ross was the closet winner to Miss Minnesota since 1980, when Linda Eder finished as fourth runner-up.
Ross will next hand over her crown to the new Miss Brainerd Lakes on June 30. Randall said Hudspeth plans to attend the Brainerd pageant.
Ross attended Central Lakes College this past spring and has previously said she plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota in Duluth or Minnesota State University Mankato and major in political science.
