RED WING -- Crosby-Ironton graduate Tony "the Bullet" Bonsante knocked out J.J. Corn in the third round of their super middleweight fight Sunday at Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing.
"I hit him with an upper cut and he just went down," said Bonsante, who improved his record to 20-3-2 with 12 knockouts. "I threw so many right hands.
"It was fun. I was in good shape and It went really well."
Bonsante's next fight is July 5 at Wade Stadium in Duluth. His opponent is not yet known.
Legion team at Silver Stars Tournament
The Brainerd Legion baseball team will compete in the 10-team Waite Park Silver Stars baseball tournament Friday-Sunday.
Brainerd's first game is 9 a.m. Friday vs. Mandan, N.D. At 1:30 p.m. Friday they'll play Bloomington Blue.
Saturday Brainerd plays St. Cloud Chutes 9 a.m. and Princeton at 4:20 p.m.
The top two teams of each pool will compete in Sunday's single-elimination Championship round.
Kyle Tholen, a recent Brainerd graduate, finished third in the 207-pound weight class of the weightlifting competition in the Star of the North Games at St. Cloud State University Saturday.
Tholen lifted 176-pounds in the snatch and 242-pounds in the clean-and-jerk to finish with a 418-pound total.
Hansen wins at Star of the North
Nikki Hansen of Deerwood won the 25-yard freestyle, 25-yard butterfly and the 25-yard breaststroke at the Star of the North games in St. Cloud June 15.
She also placed second in the 25-yard backstroke.
