MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- David Tilman, an internationally known professor of ecology, evolution and behavior, was named a regents professor by the University of Minnesota.
It's the highest honor for faculty members at the university. Only 20 of its 2,700 faculty members hold the title at one time.
As a regents professor, Tilman will receive a $10,000 annual raise and an extra $15,000 a year to fund research.
Tilman, 52, has spent his entire career at the university. He is an expert on the long-term evolution of ecosystems and the effects of biodiversity.
Tilman also was named to the National Academy of Sciences this year.
