The Mankato Moondogs broke open a 1-0 Northwoods League baseball game with a four-run eighth inning leading to a 6-0 victory over the Brainerd Blue Thunder Sunday at Mills Field.
Mankato starter Jimmy Reyes scattered seven hits and two walks over eighth innings for his first victory. He fanned four.
Cory Harrilchak started the Moondogs' rally when he was hit by a pitch. Carlos Ramirez and Wes Freie hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. Harrilchak scored on a wild pitch. Tony Strazzara walked to reload the bases and Mike Lobacz walked to drive in Ramirez. Michael Rockett followed to strikeouts with a two-out single that drove in two runs.
Harrilchak scored the first run of the game when he singled with two outs and later scored on Ramirez's double.
Ramirez scored an insurance run in the ninth for the final score.
Brainerd starter Kyle Hoffman allowed nine hits and five earned runs. He struck out three and walked two.
The Blue Thunder hit into two double plays and committed three errors to fall to 4-8. Mankato improved to 13-3.
