20 years ago (1980)

Johnny Holm came back to his roots Saturday night and the result was a love-in at the Waterfall Inn. Johnny Holm, former Brainerd High School basketball star, knew everyone there. The singer was to say later, "I could have done just about anything and they would have liked it."

30 years ago (1970)

Ray Hall, 1015 South Sixth Street, was presented with a pin for 60 years of membership in the National Association of Letter Carriers. Bill Albers, past President of Branch 864 presented the pin. Hall was a letter carrier for 43 years in Brainerd.

40 years ago (1960)

Teenagers first party of the season will be held tonight from 7:30 to 11:30 at the Brainerd Country Club. The party will be a "Bermuda Hop" for teenagers ages 13 to 19. Mr. and Mrs. Robert K. Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Weizenegger will be chaperons.

60 years ago (1940)

-- C. C. Van Essen, William Van Essen and James Boyd returned Wednesday from a trip to Harmony where they stayed with Mr. Van Essen's daughter.

-- Miss Irene Jokie is visiting her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Couture.

80 years ago (1920)

-- Business has been so good at the Ransford Hotel that COTS are used in the hallways.

-- A locomotive got away from its driver in the round house and rammed its head out through the wall, making it look as though struck by a shell in time of war.

100 years ago (1900)

Mrs. Greene: "Charles, I was astonished at the way you devoured that salad tonight. You know you always said you detested salad."

Mr. Greene: "Yes, love, but I didn't know that there was another way of making it than yours."
