The Lakes Area Senior Activity Center in Brainerd awarded certificates of appreciation to four area law enforcement officials and emergency personnel Monday for their service to the community.
Senior Center board member Merle Jones presented the certificates to Wayne Durant, an engineer with the Brainerd Fire Department; Baxter Police Sgt. James Exsted; Brainerd Police Officer Brian Brewer; and Andy Galles, an investigator with the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department.
The men, who were selected for their service in the community, were recommended for the award by their supervisors. Brainerd Police Chief John Bolduc and Crow Wing County Sheriff Eric Klang also attended the dinner with the four award recipients.
Jones said this is the first time the senior center has honored area law enforcement and emergency personnel but he said they hope to make it an annual event.
"It's just a good opportunity for us here to recognize these great volunteers," said Steve Esser, senior center board president.
The awards were presented at the center's monthly fund-raising dinners, which are the second Monday of each month.
