BAXTER -- Frieda E. Tank, age 87, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2004, at her home in Baxter.
She was born October 11, 1916, in Elkton, S.D., to Henry and Anna Karsten. She attended school at Lyman Prairie and Sauk Centre, MN. She was united in marriage to Irving H. Tank on May 11, 1937, in Sauk Centre, MN. They farmed for four years and later moved to Duluth during the war years. In 1950, they moved to Brainerd where Frieda worked at Schaefers Model Market from 1952-1960. They owned and operated Tanks Supper Club and build the Deerland Park in 1962 and operated it until they retired in 1977.
Frieda loved gardening, cards, dancing, bowling, quilting, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by: Two sons, Wayne (Beth Ann) Tank of Baxter and Gene (Linda) Tank of New Brighton, MN; one daughter, Faye (Edward) Knickmeier of Las Vegas, NV; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; one brother, Carl (Edna) Karsten, of Allentown, PA; three sisters, Kathryn Callahan, of Seattle, WA; Louise Ferguson, of Hampton, VA; and Arlene Hughes, of Prosput, CT.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters, Lorraine and Martha.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastors Paul Biegner and Mark Kleckner officiating. Internment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd. Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Arrangements are with Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd.
