Brainerd alum Tom Schmid has been offered the leading role in a "Jekyll & Hyde" production at Westchester Broadway Theatre in Westchester, N.Y., but acceptance would mean leaving Broadway's "Annie Get Your Gun," the actor-singer said in an e-mail last week.

Schmid gave up a promising legal career a few years ago to pursue a life in the theater, landing a supporting role in the long-running "Annie" musical.

"If I accept the job (in Westchester), my last day in 'Annie Get Your Gun' will be on July 16," his letter said. "My plans after the closing of 'Jekyll & Hyde' would be to move to L.A."

The Westchester show would run from Aug. 2 through Nov. 24, he said.

In student news, Carleton College announced that Rebecca Haberkorn of Aitkin appeared in a college production last month of "A Streetcar Named Desire" at the Northfield campus.

A first-year student, Haberkorn is the daughter of Jeffrey and Elaine Haberkorn.

Meanwhile, Andrea Luhrs of Brainerd and Katy Hochmayr of East Gull Lake performed with musical groups during St. Olaf College's commencement-reunion weekend in late May on the Northfield campus.

Luhrs, a music major, sung with the St. Olaf Choir, while Hochmayr, a music education and theory-composition major, performed with the St. Olaf Band.
