People of Faith Alliance will be hosted by the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Brainerd, the "Open and Affirming" church, at 7 p.m. Tuesday. This is an interfaith network whose mission is to give voice and action to a conviction that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons have the same worth and wholeness as all people and a right to just and equitable treatment by society especially the churches. Anyone who is interested in making their church more welcoming to GLBT persons is encouraged to attend. Rebecca Hostetler of the "People of Faith Alliance" will be meeting with all interested people.
Habitat for Humanity to work in area
Habitat for Humanity will have a young persons work force, 10 to 12, from Bloomington, Ill., volunteering on one of their home building projects next week. The First Congregational United Church of Christ, Brainerd, will be hosting the group at church during that week as a part of the church's support for the "Habitat for Humanity" program.
Summer Youth Adventure planned
The youth of St. Paul's Episcopal Church will meet for Summer Youth Adventure from 5:45-6:45 p.m. Thursdays. The time will be spent in physical activity combined with Bible teachings in Gregory Park, weather permitting. Otherwise they will meet in the undercroft of the church.
Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadeloupe to arrive in Brainerd
The Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadeloupe will arrive at 2:30 p.m. June 20 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Brainerd. The 4-foot-by 6-foot relic is a replica of the original miraculous image of Our Lady which she left on Saint Juan Diego's cloak (tilma). The guardian of this Missionary Image is Dan Lynch of St. Albans, Vermont. He is a retired judge, author, public speaker and audio and video producer. The spiritual advisor for this Apostolate is Father Thomas Celso.
Adoration, mass, speaker, video, devotions, music and a procession in the nearby neighborhood toward Planned Parenthood is planned.
Pillager church to host groundbreaking ceremony Sunday
The First Baptist Church in Pillager will host a groundbreaking ceremony for a new church building at 11:45 a.m. Sunday. The ceremony will be held at the site of the former church building.
On Dec. 9, 2001, a fire destroyed the church building. A new church building will be constructed on the same property. Special guests at Sunday's ceremony will include a representative from the Minnesota Baptist Conference, former pastors and the mayor of Pillager.
Church services are currently held at the Pillager School. Other activities on Sunday include a 10 a.m. fellowship time and 10:30 a.m. worship service.
The public is invited to attend.
Our Savior's Lutheran Church to host bazaar and bake sale
The women's group at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes will host their annual Bazaar and Bake Sale on Bean Hole Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 9.
Fresh fruit pie and ice cream will be sold by the slice at the church. Seating is available.
The church women will demonstrate the Scandinavian tradition of lefse making. "Hot off the grill" lefse will be sold with additional lefse being sold at the bake table along with other fresh baked goods. Handcrafted items also will be available for purchase, along with a "Grandma's Attic" area and raffle prize opportunities.
Our Savior's Lutheran Church is located one block west of the Pequot Lakes stoplights.
Missionaries will be at Park Church
Park United Methodist Church, 315 N. 6th St. in Brainerd, will have Rev. Frederick Vanderwerf and his wife, Stacy Stone Vanderwerf, both missionaries in the Ukraine, speak at a program noon Saturday at the church.
The Vanderwerfs serve as church development consultants in the Ukraine. This church is their only stop in the Northeast District so everyone is invited to attend. Park church has chosen to help support the Vanderwerfs in their work.
Ordination-Installation held at Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church
The ordination-installation of candidate Steve Anderson will be 3 p.m. June 22 at Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church in Crosslake. Anderson joins the church from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. He and his wife Joanne have two daughters, Emily and Carolyn.
Blessing of the Animals planned for Sunday
Crosslake Lutheran Church will host a 10 a.m. outdoor worship service Sunday. The service will be a special "Blessing of the Animals" service with Pastor Mark Anderson. All dogs, cats, fish, horses, sheep or any of God's creatures are welcome to come for a small blessing.
Crosslake Lutheran Church Worship Center is located on Daggett Pine Road near the Crosslake Community Center. Everyone is welcome to attend with their animals. Churchgoers may sit in their cars or sit outside on benches during the service.
