Seventh inning dooms Gulls

WATERLOO, Iowa -- Waterloo pitcher John Sterling scattered six hits over 8 1/3 innings as the Bucks downed the Brainerd Mighty Gulls 5-2 in a Northwoods League baseball matchup Wednesday night.

Tyson Hanish and Matt Rebout each had a hit and scored a run for the Mighty Gulls. Ben Vannatter and Tim Gray each drove in a run for Brainerd.

Brainerd starting pitcher Bobby Torres went three innings, giving up one hit and one run. Reliever Ryan Hamilton, who took the loss, was peppered for six hits and four runs while striking out three in four innings.

Leading 2-1 in the seventh, the Bucks opened the game up as they plated three runs, effectively putting the game out of reach for the Mighty Gulls.
