AITKIN -- Glenn E. Boyd, 72, Aitkin, died Monday, June 12, 2000, at home.
He was born Sept. 3, 1927, in Cutler to Maynard and Edna (Marsh) Boyd. He attended the Cutler school and then the Aitkin High School, graduating in 1945. He enlisted in the Army and served in Germany. Upon his discharge, he returned to the Aitkin area and married Dorothy Woodrow on Oct. 5, 1947 in Aitkin. They farmed at Hassman and Fleming and he also worked in the mines in Crosby. He farmed south of Aitkin and had owned and operated the Pure Oil station in Aitkin in 1960-1961. He bought the store in 1974 and the Lumber Co. at Pine Lake in 1978. He also started Boyd Manufacturing in 1978. He was chairman of the church board, the Wealthwood Rod and Gun Club, the Aitkin Masonic Lodge and the Duluth Shrine Temple, the Aitkin American Legion and the VFW Clubs. He was a also a life member of the N.R.A. and had served on the Mille Lacs R.E.A. board of directors for 22 years.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, LeRoy Boyd, Aitkin, Tuffy Boyd, Aitkin, and Mick Boyd, Aitkin; three daughters, Nancy Burgwald, Crosby, Edee Connor, Isle, and Ruth Moore, Andover; 16 grandchildren; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Romaine Bonneville, Aitkin, and Eva Clark, Aitkin; and a brother, Kenneth Boyd, McGregor.
His parents died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Westside Church of Aitkin with the Rev. Mark Marston and the Rev. Larry Foote officiating. Burial will be in the Bennettville Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Aitkin VFW and American Legion posts. Memorials are preferred.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home of Aitkin, with a Masonic Service at 8 p.m., and an hour before services Friday at the church.
