The maiden voyage is history.
On Monday at about 12:30 p.m., captain Dave Csanda took out a crew of seniors from Edgewood Vista on the first Let's Go Fishing trip for our Brainerd Chapter.
The Let's Go Fishing organization is mainly for seniors and we offer free trips for seniors here in the lakes area. There are 23 chapters throughout the state and this is our first year in the Brainerd Lakes Area. A lot of volunteer hours have been logged to get this rolling.
Dave said the fishing wasn't hot, but I'm fairly certain that many of these folks were just happy to be out and on the water.
On another note, the Minnesota Teen Challenge Fishing Challenge was a huge success. Awesome people, awesome weather, awesome cause and some good fishing. I fished with Mike Cousineau and we had a great time. We ended up winning the northern pike division and placing second in the panfish category. Congratulations to Al and Danny Lindner, who won the walleye division, and Dale Anderson and Steve Pennaz, who won the bass category.
Chris Maxson, thank you for being an awesome host and for your huge support of Minnesota Teen Challenge. Mike and I are already looking forward to next year.
And congratulations to Toby Kvalevog and his dad, Dean Kvalevog, who finished third at the Leech Lake Walleye Tournament despite having their creek chubs robbed by a snapping turtle.
Also, the fish were biting today (Thursday) on Gull - in 8 to 13 feet of water with jigs and small shiners.
