Amy Hunter of Staples was endorsed Thursday night in Alexandria by DFLers for the House District 11B seat being vacated by Rep. Mary Ellen Otremba, DFL-Long Prairie. The Democrats also endorsed Bennett Smith of Donnelly for the House District 11A seat.
Both had previously filed for the seats and faced no opponents in their own party. Filings closed June 1.
Senate District 11 Chair Adrian Ledermann said about 60 people attended the convention. The House candidates and Jim Thoreen, who had previously been endorsed for the state Senate seat, all took part in a question-and-answer session. He said Otremba attended the convention and was applauded for her years of service.
"It was a nice rally and kick-off for the campaigns," Ledermann said.
The DFL chair said the reason the endorsing convention was held later than usual was because Otremba did not want to announce her plans to retire until the legislative session was completed.
