Paul Tuchscherer was named this year's Brainerd Warrior tennis MVP while Matt Steiger and Aaron Peeters were named captains for next season.
Other awards given out were: Most improved varsity singles, Steiger; Most improved varsity doubles, John Benson and Peeters; Varsity hardest worker, Mark Norman; All-Central Lakes Conference, Tuchscherer and Steiger; All-CLC scholar athlete, Tuchscherer, Benson, Shaun Kennedy, Norman.
Brainerd legion baseball team ranked
The Brainerd American Legion baseball team is ranked seventh in the state with 39 votes in the first poll of the season.
Excelsior is the top-ranked team with 146 votes.
Teams are voted on by various legion baseball coaches from throughout the state and the news media.
Bees drop another
Keith Peterson pitched seven innings allowing five earned runs and 11 hits in the Brainerd Bees 5-4 loss to O'Hara's Tuesday.
Peterson walked none and stuck out two. He was also 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Brainerd's Nate Thomas was 2-4 and Kyle Holbrook added a RBI single.
The Bees are 1-6. Their next game is against Melrose at New Munich 5:30 p.m. today.
Baseball camp scheduled
The Dean Bowyer baseball camp will be in Brainerd June 16-18.
Players 8- to 12-years old will participate from 9 a.m. to noon. From 1 p.m. to 4 is the 13-18 age group.
The cost is $60 per participant. Registration is on the first day of the camp.
