STEWARTVILLE (AP) -- A South Dakota woman died and two other people were hospitalized after a string of crashes here, authorities said Wednesday.
Kerri Lynn Dubbelde, 40, was leading a group of four motorcycle riders -- two husband-wife couples from Viborg, S.D. -- on Interstate 90 near Stewartville, south of Rochester, when her bike struck a deer about 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, said Department of Public Safety spokesman Kevin Smith.
The crash caused another rider, Cindy Tischler Dangel, to collide with Dubbelde. A semitrailer then ran over Dubbelde, killing her, authorities said.
Dangel, 42, was listed in good condition Thursday at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Dubbelde's husband, Robert, stopped to help, while Dangel's husband circled back with his flashers on to warn other motorists of the accident. Two other motorists stopped to help.
Robert Dubbelde, 44, was struck by one of the vehicles, although authorities weren't sure which one, Smith said.
"We don't know which vehicle ran him over, but we know who everybody is," Smith said.
