Home runs lift Braves to title

ST. MATHIAS -- Nine home runs turned into 28 runs for the Brainerd Braves who demolished Clarissa 28-5 in the championship game of the St. Mathias baseball tournament Sunday.

Mike Bjerkness was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the third. Derek Schmeck was 2-2 with a two-run shot in the fifth. Tony Whitlock finished 2-3 with a grand slam in the sixth.

Ryan Thiesse was 3-4 with a three-run homer in the fourth. Chris Studer followed up with a solo shot as he went 3-5. Jason Beyer knocked out a two run shot in the sixth and Jade O'Brien followed him with a solo shot. Adam Browning and Tim Seikas both had homers as well.

Braves 12, Minneapolis 1

ST. MATHIAS -- Brad Strieff pitched six scoreless innings to lead the Brainerd Braves over the Minneapolis Blue Sox 12-1 in the St. Mathias tournament Saturday.

Strieff struck out six and allowed only two hits. Nic Hanson helped his teammate going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Chris Studer was 2-4 with two runs and two RBI and Adam Browning was 2-3 with two doubles, two runs and a RBI.

Pierz Bulldogs 11,

Pierz Brewers 10

PIERZ -- It was a battle for bragging rights in Pierz on Sunday as the Bulldogs defeated the Brewers 11-10 in Victory League amateur baseball action.

There were 36 hits between the teams. Jamie Fischer and Shawn Fischer started against on the mound with Jamie recording the win.

For the Bulldogs, John Pohlkamp was 4-for-7 with a double and three RBI and Gary Woitalla was 4-for-6. Dan Rocheleau was 3-for-7 with an RBI. Jamie Fischer, Dean Rocheleau, Mitch Becker, and Clint Sullivan all had two hits for the Bulldogs.

Alvin Kimman was 4-for-6 for the Brewers. Steve Kimman was 3-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBI. Bob Pohlkamp had a triple and home run with two RBI. Greg Pohlkamp was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Scott Kimman and Gerard Kimman both had two hits for the Brewers.

Sobieski 11, Randall 2

Brad Czech threw eight innings to lead the Sobieski Skis to an 11-2 win over the Randall Cubs on Sunday.

The Cubs' Bobby Sanders was 3-for-4 with a double. Nick Prozinski was 2-for-4 with a home run and double, and Dan Strack was 2-for-4. Jason King received the loss as he pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowed 12 hits, struck out nine and walked three.

Lastrup 6, St. Wendel 5

ST. WENDEL -- Thanks to a three-run homer by Paul Jenkins, a two-run homer by Reggie Litke and a solo shot by Gabe Stott, the Lastrup Silverspurs defeated St. Wendel 6-5 Sunday.

Litke picked up the win on the mound, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run. He gave up three hits, walked four and struck out six.

Donavon Daiker and Tim Lease were both 2-for-4 for the Spurs.
