ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- Meg Mallon closed with a 5-under-par 67 for an 8-under 280 total and a two-stroke victory in the Rochester International.
It was Mallon's 12th victory in 14 years on the LPGA tour. Wendy Doolan (66) was second, while Dale Eggeling (73) finished third at 284.
Defending champion Karrie Webb, who has 10 victories in 17 months, shot a 70 and finished at two over to tie for 13th. It was her only time outside the top six this year.
LONG GROVE, Ill. (AP) -- Tom Kite shot a final-round 4-under-par 68 for a 9-under 207 total and a victory in the SBC Senior Open at the Kemper Lakes Golf Club. Bruce Fleisher (68) finished two strokes back, one ahead of third-place finisher Bruce Summerhays (69).

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Yankees signed pitcher Dwight Gooden to a minor league contract. Gooden, 35, was 2-3 with a 6.86 ERA for Houston and Tampa Bay this season before being released by the Devil Rays two weeks ago. He is 190-110 with a 3.51 ERA for his career.
Minnetonka wins Class 3A softball
NORTH MANKATO, Minn. -- Lindsay Burton hit a two-run single to give Minnetonka a 2-0 extra innings victory over Forest Lake and its second straight Class AAA softball title.
Burton drove in pinch hitter Susan Taylor, who led off the ninth with a single to left field, and Michelle Boys, who had a base-hit bunt.
Skippers (23-2) pitcher Lyn Peyer struck out 13 batters and held the Rangers to three hits. Boys went 2-for-4. Peyer led all pitchers with 29 strikeouts in the state tournament at Caswell Park.
Holy Angels claims
Class AA crown
NORTH MANKATO, Minn. -- Holy Angels beat Big Lake 5-0 to win the Minnesota Class AA girls' softball championship on Saturday.
After five scoreless innings, Meghan Shepard and Jessica Composto led off the sixth inning with back-to-back base hits and scored on RBI singles by Janet Ploncinsky and Katie Jirik.
Ploncinsky later scored on an RBI single by Maggie Brennan. Designated player Jirik scored on a fielder's choice, and Veronica Trunecek singled to drive in Becky Dalsin.
It was Holy Angels' third shutout victory of the tournament at Caswell Park. The Stars (18-9) finished second at last year's state tournament.
St. Bernard's champ in Class A
NORTH MANKATO, Minn. -- Jamie Nagolsky threw her second consecutive no-hitter as St. Bernard's beat Mankato Loyola 4-0 Saturday for its fifth Minnesota Class A high school softball championship.
Nagolsky became the first pitcher in state high school softball history to throw two no-hitters in tournament play and the first to throw one in a championship game. In two games, Nagolsky had 21 stikeout and nine walks.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Steve Young couldn't say goodbye without one more visit to the locker room.
Young, 38, a two-time league MVP who succeeded Joe Montana and led the San Francisco 49ers to their fifth Super Bowl title following the 1994 season, was to announce his retirement Monday at a farewell news conference. It was held in the club's locker room at team headquarters at his request.
