William Weis, the DFL-endorsed candidate for the District 4B House seat held by Rep. Larry Howes, has ended his candidacy for the Legislature.
Weis, 30, of Pine River, said Thursday he made the decision to step down for personal and professional reasons. He declined to elaborate.
A food and beverage manager and chef at Grand View Lodge in Nisswa, Weis lost to Howes by a 58-42 percent margin in 2002. In March, when he announced his candidacy he had said he hoped the name recognition he had established in the race two years ago would help him this year.
District 4B includes eastern Hubbard, southern Cass and northern Crow Wing counties.
The filing for the Legislature is July 6-20.
Senate District 4 DFL Chairman Michael Meuers could not be reached for comment on any potential candidates for the seat.
