NISSWA -- The June 19 meeting of the Nisswa Women's Club will feature "Celebrating Life's Rewards," a fair highlighting the talent and interests of its members. The meeting and luncheon will begin at noon at Lutheran Church of the Cross.

Lorrie Anderson will chair, hostesses are Rosemary Kraus, Mary Miller, Marilyn Robb and Sandie Tricker.

The Nisswa Women's Club supports numerous scholarship and charitable causes in the Brainerd lakes area. Luncheon meetings are noon the third Thursday of each month with additional special events and field trips. For information on becoming a member, call member chair RoAnn Schroeder at 963-7775.

Flag retirement ceremony set in Hackensack

HACKENSACK -- American Legion Post 202 of Hackensack and American Legion Post 134 of Walker will co-host a flag retirement ceremony at 4 p.m. Saturday, Flag Day, in the city park in Hackensack.

The public is invited to attend. Anyone who has flags that are unserviceable and need to be retired should bring them to either Legion before noon Friday.

Book highlights Hackensack area history

HACKENSACK -- The Hackensack Centennial Committee has published a 316-page history of the city and surrounding townships. Histories of many families in the community also are included.

Books are now on sale at Southside, Spectrum Printing, Sun and Fun, Swanson's, Larson Construction, Centennial Bank and First National Bank of Walker, Hackensack branch. Cost is $25 each.

Books also may be ordered by mail, with $5 additional for each book for shipping. Checks should be made out to Hackensack Centennial and mailed to Shirley Frederick, 3271 First St. S.W., Hackensack, MN, 56452.
