One of the area's most successful businessmen and generous philanthropists is being honored today in Crosby. He is E.W. Hallett, who came to this area as a poor, uneducated boy and has now reached the milestone of 100 years of age.

Ray Shortridge was elected president of the Minnesota State Fire Department Association at the group's convention which concluded here Saturday.

Temperatures plunged to below freezing in northern Minnesota early today and dropped to an unseasonable 41 in Brainerd.

James Fitzharris and Jack Enright left this morning for Minneapolis to spend the day. They will return to Brainerd this evening.
80 years ago (1922)
Two of the finest trout ever seen in Brainerd were on display at Wright's Hardware Store. They were genuine brook trout and weighed 2 pounds each and were caught by Mert Congdon.
100 years ago (1902)
As fine a class of young ladies and gentlemen as ever attained the mark entitling them to recognition in the world graduated last night from the Brainerd High School. There were 16 in number and seldom ever has a more well balanced class mentally passed out of the city schools.
