Fan bus chartered for state tournament

A fan bus has been chartered for the Brainerd Warriors appearance in the Class 3A state baseball tournament.

It will depart from the north lot at Brainerd High School at 6:45 a.m. and return at approximately 9 p.m. The bus will stop on the way back at the Old Country Buffet in St. Cloud for dinner.

Tickets may be purchased from Paula in the BHS office from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The cost is $14 per person. If you have any questions please call 824-6204 or 824-6300.

The Warriors will play New Ulm 10 a.m. Thursday at Midway Stadium in St. Paul. If they win they will play the Cretin-Derham Hall/Forest Lake winner at 3 p.m. at Midway. If they lose, the Warriors will play the Cretin-Derham Hall/Forest Lake loser at 3 p.m. at Siebert.

A fan bus will also be chartered Friday if the Warriors play for the championship at 5 p.m. at Midway.

Bees split at

St. Cloud tournament

The Brainerd Bees split two games in an amateur baseball tournament over the weekend at St. Cloud.

Sunday's games were cancelled by rain.

On Saturday, the Bees beat Eden Valley 5-1 as Jake Francis pitched a complete game, gave up five hits and struck out 10. Kevin Ericson was 2-for-4 and Nick Dircks 2-for-2 to lead Brainerd.

On Friday, the Bees lost 6-2 to Holdingford. Losing pitcher was Tim Martin. Ericson hit a two-run homer for Brainerd.

The Bees, 5-4 overall, play an exhibition Wednesday at Jimmy's Pour House in Sauk Rapids.

Shep's over-35

team drops opener

Shep's Chargers over-35 baseball team lost its opener 6-2 to the Dent on Thursday.

Jerry Oakley, Tom Martin and Mark Smeltzer all singled and Jeff Howard doubled for Shep's, which will play at Dent June 15.

Baxter Preps

split doubleheader

The Baxter Preps (age 13) L and M Steel/Dondelinger traveling baseball team split a doubleheader at Bemidji June 6.

Bemidji Grey defeated Baxter 11-8 in the first game and Baxter beat Bemidji White 10-5 in the second.

Baxter's Pat Majka was 3-for-6 with two runs scored, Shane Dutton was 3-for-6 with five runs and Mike Nelson was 1-for-3 with four runs.
