Carrie D. Engquist

AITKIN -- Carrie D. Engquist, 100, Aitkin, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at the Riverwood Extended Care Center in Aitkin.

She was born Jan. 14, 1901, at Iron Hub, to Christopher and Sophie (Dangers) Ruschmeyer. She attended school in the area and lived in Deerwood before moving to Aitkin as a young adult. She married Edwin Engquist in August 1919 in Aitkin County. They lived in Aitkin their entire married life. Her husband was a co-owner of the Aitkin Independent Age until 1963. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Alter Guild, former member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Aitkin Cemetery Board.

Survivors include a son, Carlton Engquist, Leesburg, Va.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Her husband died in 1969; a son, Eddie Engquist, a daughter, Carolyn Ferlita, four brothers and three sisters also died earlier.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Aitkin with the Rev. Douglas Larson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Aitkin.

Friends may call one hour before the service Thursday at the church.

Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
