CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) -- John Schroeder's last victory in a professional golf tournament came 20 years ago on another continent.
His only appearance in a professional playoff was a loss on the PGA Tour in 1979.
Things changed dramatically for the former TV analyst on Sunday.
The 55-year-old Schroeder beat Allen Doyle on the second playoff hole to win the NFL Golf Classic, his first pro victory since the 1981 Rover Open in Bordeaux, France.
History doesn't bode well for Estes at U.S. Open
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- The St. Jude Classic was a weekend for renewal for Bob Estes and John Daly.
Estes won only his second PGA Tour event Sunday, and his first in 162 tournaments. Daly didn't win, but he might have come even farther than Estes after years of personal problems.
Estes nearly let his victory slip away. He led by a stroke as the final round began and watched Daly tie him at 18 under through five holes. But Daly, who shot a 73, bogeyed four of the next six holes to fall back and tie for fifth.
Laura Davies is suddenly
on a roll again
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- The stars of women's golf should take heed: Laura Davies has her game back.
"I don't think they'll be scared yet," the 37-year-old Englishwoman said, but "I'll be after them. I'll be trying to win any event I play."
With a switch to graphite shafts, Davies pulled out of the worst slump of her career and coasted to victory Sunday at the Rochester International.
It was her 20th LPGA victory. If she wins twice more -- or picks up her fifth major -- it would land her in the Hall of Fame.
"If I can get a run of good weeks, then I'll be right up there in the clouds again," Davies said.
