Brainerd's 16-year-old VFW baseball squad opened its season Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Sauk Rapids.
Brainerd won the first game 6-1 and the second 14-3.
Matt Siegel picked up the win in the first game with Chris Feming pitching an inning of relief.
In the second game, Zach Heidman pitched four innings before giving way to Dan Lepel and Nick Schueller.
Leading hitters for Brainerd were Siegel, who finished 5-for-10 with a double, triple and home run. Lepel was 5-for-7 with two doubles. Steve Berndgen finished 4-for-6 with two doubles. Jesse Keller went 4-for-9 and Heidman hit a home run.
Brainerd's next game is 9 a.m. Thursday against Sartell at the Central Lakes College field.
