BEMIDJI -- Marvel F. Swenson, 87, Bemidji, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.
She was born April 15, 1913, in the Mill Park section of Bemidji to Frank and Edna (Carlson) Walburg. In 1914 her family moved to a farmstead on Lake Marquette in the Carr Lake community. She attended school at Carr Lake and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1932. She attended Bemidji State Teachers College and began a career as a teacher. She taught at schools in Kabekona and Grant Valley, and completed her teaching career at Lincoln Elementary School in Bemidji for 24 years, retiring in 1970. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bemidji and the United Presbyterian Women. She was a member of Chapter 171, Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge. She was active with the Retired Teachers Association, Carr Lake Farmers Club, Carr Lake Homemakers Club and the Lakeview Drive Homemakers Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Myrna Lauderbaugh, Centerville, and Linnea Mostad, Bemidji; three sons, Fred Swenson, Shoreview, Ronald Otterstad, Bemidji, and Gary Otterstad, Nisswa; three sisters, Lois Stortroen, Bemidji, Phyllis Soland, Sauk Rapids, and Bernice Dow, Bemidji; a brother, Ray Walburg, Hot Springs, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, Bemidji, with the Rev. Jack High officiating. Burial will be at the Frohn Eastside Cemetery in Frohn Township.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. today at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji and one hour before services Monday at the church.
